The “In the Footsteps of Josef Gočár” trail takes visitors through the center of Pardubice and highlights the architect’s deep connection to the city. This prominent native of East Bohemia was born in nearby Semín near Přelouč, where he spent his early years at the local brewery, where his father worked as a brewmaster. After moving to Bohdaneč, he began to interact more frequently with the residents of Pardubice, including the Chlada family, where he met his future wife, Marie. 

The trail begins at Pardubice Castle, where Gočár’s future wife, Marie, grew up in the family of the local brewer. It then continues to the iconic Winternitz Automatic Mills building, whose architectural design—and especially its decorative façade—was conceived by Gočár in 1910. The route then takes visitors past the old secondary school, where Gočár spent his student years, all the way to Republic Square. Here, the main stops are the English-Czechoslovak Bank, built between 1924 and 1925, and the sprawling Grand Hotel and District House complex from 1927–1931. The trail also highlights the architect’s unrealized projects in this area.
