The gravestone was designed by the architect Vilém Kvasnička (1885–1969), a former student of Jan Kotěra at the School of Applied Arts in Prague. In 1910, when he was working for the builder Ladislav Skřivánek, he designed the tombstone of Pastor Jindřich Švanda at the Olšany cemeteries. Kvasnička's second funerary work, for the Berman family crypt, is located at Olšany as well.
The stele was clearly inspired by folk art objects such as the umrlčí prkna/Totenbretter (literally "boards for the dead") of the Šumava region, as well as wayside shrines or ornamental crosses with gabled roofs. Kvasnička took these objects, usually made of wood, and created a version in stone. The curved sides of the shaft loosely evoke carved folk ornamentation. Their design may also be a reminder that the grave belongs to an artistic family whose roots go back to the traveling theaters of the Czech National Revival era, which were geared toward rural audiences. The stele sits on a round base flanked by two short rectangular pillars done in a contrasting white color. Perhaps added later as pedestals for lamps or vases, they are made of marble, thanks to which they differ not only in color from the main stele but also in the degree of damage resulting from the elements and vegetation. With its striking silhouette, the slender monument measuring about 280 cm in height immediately draws attention from a distance.
It is purely an actors' crypt. Buried here are actress Anna Bermanová Suková (1863–1914) and actor Ludvík Berman (1861–1938), both of whom worked at the theater in Pilsen and at Prague's Uranie Theatre. Anna was the sister of actor, director, and theater manager Vilém Josef Suk, whose daughter, actress Anna Suková (1879–1905), is also interred here. The crypt is likewise the final resting place of the stage and film actress Heda Bulejková Marková (1906–1960), daughter of director Vladimír Marek and operetta actress Věra Skalská. Bulejková Marková studied harp at the Brno Conservatory and later performed at Prague's Uranie Theatre, Tyl Theatre, Vlasta Burian Theatre, and with touring companies. After some time away from Prague, she and her husband, the actor Štěpán Bulejek (1914–1976), later performed with the Prague Municipal Theatres. In cinema, she appeared in the films Neznámá kráska (The Mysterious Beauty), Májové hvězdy (May Stars), O medvědu Ondřejovi (The Bear and the Ghosts), and Probuzení (Awakening), among others.
