The first river spa in Třebíč was built in 1910 on the right bank of the Jihlava River. The area on its left bank was built in 1933–1934 as a modern municipal swimming pool with a capacity of 1,200 people according to the design of the Brno architect Bohuslav Fuchs. Within his work, this is a unique work, not typologically, as the architect had already designed several outdoor spa areas in Brno – the reconstruction of the Riviéra river spa (1927) or the spa on Svratecký náhon (1928) or the summer spa in Zábrdovice (1930) – the Třebíč spa differs from the catalogue of his works mainly in the use of wood as the main structural material. The two-storey building of the changing cabins is designed as a subtle wooden skeleton structure on the ground plan of an elongated L with four staircases. An open gallery runs along the entire length of the floor, which is connected to the changing cabins closed by cassette doors. The layout of the individual wings differs according to the functional division, while the central part on the ground floor was intended for refreshments and hygiene facilities. The counter roof with a slight slope is supported by wooden columns across both floors and covered with sheet metal. The changing cabin building is It has preserved a high degree of authenticity, including the original wooden structure, layout and many details (only the original color scheme could not be determined, the current one is modern) and was declared a cultural monument in 2011.
The architecture is characterized by lightness, clarity and a direct relationship to the surrounding landscape of the picturesque Jihlava River valley. The complex was completely reconstructed in 2024–2025 and subsequently reopened to the public.
The Polanka River Spa building is an exceptional example of Bohuslav Fuchs' ability to respond to the natural environment when designing recreational buildings, similar to what he did, for example, in the Zelená žaba summer swimming pool in Trenčianske Teplice, the project of which was created a year after the opening of the Třebíč spa.
