The Sokol gymnastics unit was founded in Bystřice pod Hostýnem in 1892. The idea of building its own falconry appeared as early as 1909, but it was only realized after the First World War, when the unit's membership base grew significantly.

In 1921, a building plot was purchased on what is now Schwaigrov Square, and in January 1922, a close competition was held, in which architects Miloš Laml and Bohuslav Fuchs, a native of nearby Všechovice, were approached. Fuchs's rondocubist concept won out and the architect developed a project for a large complex. The foundation stone of the building was laid on June 18, 1922. The falconry hall was officially opened on October 28 of the same year, although only part of Fuchs' original design was implemented for financial reasons - a theater hall with a balcony and facilities, which were also temporarily used for physical education activities.

The building of the Sokol building has a rectangular ground plan with a raised central nave, covered with a gable roof and lit from above by a strip of windows. The main facade is emphasized by the entrances covered with a rounded roof and the inscription SOKOL in the gable. The characteristic features of the building are the horizontal division of the facades, the symmetry of the window axes and the circular and cylindrical motifs in the exterior and interior, elements typical of rondocubism. A style that was to become a national style in the first years of the formation of Czechoslovakia and thus corresponded well to the representative character of the headquarters of the Sokol association.

The originally planned next part of the building, its own gym, restaurant and hotel, were never completed, although Bohuslav Fuchs had drawn up designs for them in 1938, but their implementation was thwarted by World War II.

The building still serves its purpose as a gym and restaurant, and many of its original architectural elements have been preserved, but it is in considerable disrepair and is marked by a number of inappropriate modifications and extensions in its immediate vicinity.
