The "Around Citadel" trail features some of the most representative housing projects in Lviv from the late 1920s to the late 1930s. The trail is named after Citadel Hill, around which all the buildings on the route are located.
These projects are designed in a modernist-functional style, often combined with Art Deco elements, especially visible in the decoration of facades and building foyers. One of the highlights is the modernist housing complex on Doroshenka Street, considered the most impressive development for upper- and middle-class residents in Lviv. This complex showcases key characteristics of Lviv’s modernist architecture: porthole windows, mica plastering, horizontal and vertical ribbon glazing, and richly decorated foyers with alabaster paneling.
The trail also includes more modest and typical examples, such as the residential building on Lukiyanovycha Street. A particularly intriguing part of the route is the private homes of three renowned Lviv architects: Józef Avin, Wawrzyniec Dajczak, and Piotr Tarnawiecki.
