At the beginning of the 20th century, the market town of Nedvědice underwent rapid construction development, driven by the arrival of the railway, the founding of a textile factory by Otto Kuhn, and stone quarrying (operated, among others, by Marie Loosová). In the first three decades of the 20th century, the number of houses in the town more than doubled, built by local contractors — particularly the company of Jaroslav Hutař — based on designs by both regional and prominent Brno architects, such as Vladimír Fischer and Miloslav Kopřiva. Nedvědice was, and still is, a sought-after tourist destination for visitors heading into nature or to the nearby Pernštejn Castle. The last private owners of the castle, the Mittrowsky noble family, also played a role in the town’s development.
