The Cihlář Pond was previously called Cihlářský (brickmakers’) and before that Jirchářský (tanners’), which suggests that it was used by tanners and leatherworkers. Due to the smell that accompanied leather processing, the tanners’ workplaces were located outside the town. When the Budoucnost Park (HB-VP-R-PB) was established and the hiking trails towards Vlkovsko were improved, the Cihlář Pond also took on a recreational role as a stop along this natural promenade, later becoming a popular spot for swimming. The beach was located on the southeast shore of the pond, along which runs a footpath to Vlkovsko, but the only amenities consisted of a few benches with the occasional mobile refreshment stand appearing. After the Velvet Revolution, the town planned for the first time  to build complete facilities for the swimming area—including refreshments, changing rooms, and toilets—but in the end, the project was never realized.

This long-standing idea finally came to fruition in 2024. The first designs for the new beach had been created a year earlier by students and recent graduates of the Stanislav Bechyně Secondary Technical School of Construction. The project was then finalized by Milan Stejskal’s architectural studio in Havlíčkův Brod. The project includes a sandy and gravel beach on the pond shore with access to the water via a double-arm pier and steps, complete site furnishings, including benches and bicycle racks, two changing cabins, and a compostable toilet.

The individual elements were designed with an emphasis on simplicity, durability, and low maintenance. Concrete, hardwood and steel are the predominant materials. Practical solutions are integrated with a minimalist yet refined aesthetic, grounded in the inherent properties of the selected materials. The concrete walkways feature textured surfaces, while the walls of the smaller structures—constructed from planks set within load-bearing steel frames—are designed for partial replacement. The spacing between the planks ensures the ventilation of the technical components. Water access is provided by a long pier with a circular passage, extending further above the water level for experienced swimmers, as well as by a shoreline pier or steps with railings located away from the busiest areas for less confident swimmers.
