Architect and founder of the Havlíčkův Brod-based architectural studio Atelier 02.

After primary school, he studied at the Secondary Industrial School of Civil Engineering in Havlíčkův Brod from 1980 to 1984. He applied several times to study architecture at university but was initially rejected for political reasons. Between 1984 and 1986, he worked at the state enterprise Hydroprojekt Prague. Following ministerial intervention, he was admitted to the Faculty of Architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague in 1986. Although he did not consider his education in the late 1980s under the declining Husák regime to be particularly useful, his university studies allowed him to meet like-minded peers. After actively participating in the Velvet Revolution, he was selected for a scholarship at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Trier. His studies there, followed by work in Dortmund and Darmstadt, profoundly changed the direction of his career. The different approaches abroad to architecture inspired him to establish his own studio.

In 2014, he founded Atelier 02 in Havlíčkův Brod, which over its eleven-year existence has designed 74 buildings and 42 interiors. The studio’s work spans the full range of architectural work, from new public buildings (such as the Vysočina Regional Library), family and apartment buildings, to renovations, revitalizations, and functional extensions (Josefodol Gamekeeper’s Lodge, Chrudim Hospice), as well as outdoor projects (Cihlář Pond beach) and the design of residential and commercial interiors. Milan Stejskal is a talented draughtsman whose meticulously executed drawings form the foundation for the further development of his original ideas.

He has been a member of the Czech Chamber of Architects since 1996.
