Chief provincial engineer and builder in Prague.
We know very little about his education, but it is likely he studied at the Prague Technical University. His residence and engineering activities in Prague are documented from 1884 onwards. He worked as an engineer for the Provincial Committee in the technical department for civil engineering, roads and bridges, and later as chief provincial engineer and building councillor. In 1915, he retired and continued to work as a licensed builder in Prague. His work featured historicist and later Art Nouveau forms.
Two of his projects for Německý (Havlíčkův) Brod—the district hospital (1896) and the domestic science school (1901), both realized in his capacity as provincial engineer—were featured in the prestigious journal Technický obzor as exemplary model buildings. In Brod, he won a competition for the construction of a post office building (1909), which was built by the company of Otakar and František Liška, and he also participated in a competition for the design of an office building (the conversion of the old magistrate’s office into a town hall in 1901), which was never realized.
He also designed buildings for domestic science and agricultural schools and hospitals in historicist styles in other towns (the district hospital in Pardubice and domestic science and agricultural schools in Humpolec, České Budějovice, Tábor, and Chomutov).
